Conversational editing moves deeper into Adobe's core creative tools

Adobe said on March 10, 2026 that it is expanding conversational AI inside its creative stack with a public beta of AI Assistant in Photoshop for web and mobile, plus a larger editing toolkit inside Firefly Image Editor. In the official announcement, Adobe described the release as part of a broader effort to make editing more natural by letting creators describe what they want instead of navigating every step manually.

The Photoshop side is the clearest workflow change. Adobe says AI Assistant can handle requests such as removing distractions, changing backgrounds, refining lighting and adjusting color, either by applying edits automatically or by guiding users step by step. The company also introduced AI Markup in public beta on Photoshop web, allowing users to draw directly on an image and attach prompts to control where changes should happen. That makes prompt-based editing more spatial and less trial-and-error than plain text alone.

Firefly Image Editor is being upgraded in parallel. Adobe says the editor now includes Generative Fill, Generative Remove, Generative Expand, Generative Upscale and one-click Remove Background in one workspace for AI-generated or uploaded images. The company also emphasized model choice as a product feature: Firefly users can work with more than 25 AI models, including Adobe's commercially safe models as well as options from Google, OpenAI, Runway and Black Forest Labs.

The release matters because it pushes AI from standalone generation toward mainstream production software. Adobe is not only adding assistant-style interaction, it is also combining generation, editing and model selection inside applications creative teams already use. The company further sweetened the offer with unlimited generations for paid Photoshop web and mobile subscribers through April 9 and broader access inside Firefly. For creators and design teams, the practical message is that AI image work is becoming less about switching tools and more about staying inside one continuously assisted editing environment.
