Anthropic Opens Bengaluru Office and Expands Partnerships Across India

Anthropic said on February 16, 2026 that it has officially opened its Bengaluru office and is expanding partnerships across India. According to the company, India is now the second-largest market for Claude.ai, and nearly half of Claude usage in India is tied to computer and mathematical work such as building applications, modernizing systems, and shipping production software. The announcement is framed as an operating expansion rather than a single-location launch, covering enterprise adoption, education, agriculture, and public-sector workflows.

Language and localization work

Anthropic said it has been improving performance in Indian languages after observing that AI systems still perform better in English than in many local languages. The company listed 10 languages in its current effort: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. It also described collaborations with Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to build public evaluations for locally relevant tasks in areas such as agriculture and law, with support from Digital Green and Adalat AI. This is notable because it links model quality claims to external evaluation plans instead of internal-only metrics.

Enterprise and startup signals

Anthropic reported that its run-rate revenue in India has doubled since its October 2025 expansion announcement. Customer examples included Air India using Claude Code, CRED reporting 2x faster feature delivery and 10% better test coverage, and Cognizant deploying Claude to 350,000 employees globally. The company also highlighted startup adoption at Razorpay and Enterpret, and stated that Emergent reached $25 million in annual recurring revenue and 2 million users in under five months while being built with Claude.

Education and public infrastructure

In education, Anthropic said Pratham's Claude-powered Anytime Testing Machine is being piloted with 1,500 students across 20 schools, with a plan to expand to 100 schools by the end of 2026. The system was also adapted for more than 5,000 learners in Pratham's Second Chance program. In the public sector, Anthropic referenced work with EkStep Foundation and OpenAgriNet-related efforts, plus support for Adalat AI's national WhatsApp helpline for court-related updates and document assistance. Anthropic also pointed to the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as an interoperability layer in India, including government data-server use cases.

The immediate significance is that Anthropic is combining go-to-market growth with localization, evaluation transparency, and public-service pilots in one national strategy. The next validation step will be whether these partnerships produce sustained quality and measurable outcomes at deployment scale.
