Microsoft packages Copilot, Agent 365, and security controls into the Frontier Suite

What Microsoft announced

On March 9, 2026, Microsoft said it is introducing Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite as a bundled package for organizations that want agentic AI, management controls, and security in one place. The post combines several product moves into a single enterprise story: Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot, broader model choice with Claude and next-generation OpenAI models, the general availability of Agent 365 on May 1 for $15 per user, and the general availability of Microsoft 365 E7 on the same date for $99 per user.

Microsoft frames the package around two ideas, Intelligence + Trust. In practice, that means the company wants Copilot and custom agents to use organizational context through Work IQ, while IT and security teams manage those agents through a shared control plane. Microsoft says Copilot now supports a more model-diverse setup and that Claude is available in mainline chat through the Frontier program alongside the latest OpenAI models.

Why the packaging matters

The most important part of the announcement is not the new name. It is the attempt to turn enterprise AI from a collection of pilots into a governed operating model. Microsoft says Agent 365 gives IT leaders one place to observe, govern, manage, and secure agents across the company. It also says tens of millions of agents have already appeared in the Agent 365 Registry during preview, while Microsoft itself now has visibility into more than 500,000 agents internally.

That matters because the market is moving from simple chat assistants toward long-running systems that create files, call tools, and act across SaaS workflows. Once agents become part of production work, governance, identity, and security stop being side features. Microsoft is positioning Frontier Suite as the answer to that control problem rather than as just another Copilot upsell.

This is a meaningful enterprise AI story because it joins model diversity, application context, and security controls into one commercial bundle. Microsoft is effectively arguing that agent platforms will be bought as managed systems, not as isolated model endpoints.
