Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Expands to PS5 and PC for a Late 2026 Launch

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is no longer just a Nintendo-facing revival. According to LEVEL-5 and Gematsu's coverage of LEVEL-5 Vision 2026, the puzzle adventure will also launch on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam alongside its previously announced Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch versions toward the end of 2026. That shifts the project from a platform-specific comeback into a broader multi-platform return for one of LEVEL-5's best-known series.
LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino said during the event that core gameplay is nearly finished and the team is now focusing on visuals and overall presentation. He also said Japanese voice recording has wrapped and localization for international releases is underway. That is not a hard release date, but it matters because it suggests the game has moved beyond the teaser phase and into a late-stage polishing stretch.
What the new reveal adds
- The official materials now list PlayStation 5 and Steam alongside Switch 2 and Switch as supported platforms.
- The story takes place one year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, with Layton and Luke reuniting in the American city of Steam Bison.
- LEVEL-5 highlighted Coin Radar, a World Map, updated movement, puzzles that help the town grow, new companion characters, full 3D cutscenes, and mouse support outside Nintendo Switch.
The project still leans on classic Layton strengths, but the presentation suggests a larger push than a simple nostalgia play. LEVEL-5 says the game will include the most puzzles in series history, with puzzle design by QuizKnock. The publisher is also framing the production with recognizable talent, including a theme-song collaboration between Joe Hisaishi and Lilas Ikuta. That combination makes the release look more like a flagship return than a small-scale side revival.
The business significance is just as clear. Adding PS5 and PC expands the addressable audience at a time when puzzle adventure games benefit from long-tail storefront visibility and international word of mouth. The official site already lists English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish support, so the platform expansion is paired with a broad global-language strategy. There is still no final date or price, but the late-2026 window and the current development status make this one of LEVEL-5's more concrete release updates of the year.
