Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2's $5 Voice Pack DLC Called 'Straight Up False Advertising' by Fans

Space Marine 2 Faces Its First Major Community Backlash
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which launched to critical acclaim in 2024, is now facing its first significant community backlash. Patch 12.0 introduced the new Techmarine class alongside the Chapter Voice Pack 1 DLC, and it's the DLC that has ignited player fury — earning a 'mostly negative' rating on Steam.
What the DLC Promises vs. What It Delivers
Priced at $4.99, the Chapter Voice Pack 1 promises 450 re-recorded voicelines and a unique Space Marine Head cosmetic for the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Black Templars chapters. It is sold separately and is not included in either Season Pass 1 or Season Pass 2.
The problem: when players equip a DLC voice, it reverts to the default Ultramarine voice lines whenever a character interacts with mission objectives — such as searching bodies for codes in the Inferno mission. This creates a jarring audio experience where a player's Space Marine effectively switches voices mid-mission.
Players Cry Foul Over '450 Voicelines' Claim
Many players suspect the "450 re-recorded voicelines" figure counts lines across all supported languages rather than in a single language, making the number misleading. Steam reviews are scathing: "I have no idea where they got 450 voicelines from — it mixes with standard voice lines during operations"; "The Blood Angel voice becomes literally Vespasius again when obtaining codes in Inferno." Others noted there are no voices yet for helmet-wearing variants of the character.
Developer Response Awaited
Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive have not yet issued a public response. Given Space Marine 2's otherwise strong reputation for post-launch support, the gaming community is watching closely to see how the team addresses this controversy.
