Personal health context enters ChatGPT

OpenAI is rolling out Health in ChatGPT to U.S. users, giving them a way to connect Apple Health and supported medical records inside the product. The launch tweet said users can

“connect Apple Health and supported medical records”

to understand their information in context and track what has changed. The connected sources include Apple Health plus supported U.S. hospital systems, One Medical, and Function Health.

The scale makes the product shift important. OpenAI says more than 300 million people turn to ChatGPT with health-related questions each week. Until now, the relevant context often sat across patient portals, lab reports, apps, and wearables. Health in ChatGPT is meant to reduce that manual assembly by letting the model compare a new result with prior tests, summarize changes since an appointment, or consider sleep and activity alongside a user’s question.

The linked OpenAI post puts privacy controls near the center of the launch. Connected medical records and Apple Health data, along with conversations that use them, are not used to train foundation models or target ads. By default, ChatGPT asks before using connected health information in a response. Users can disconnect accounts, and OpenAI says synced data from that source is deleted from its systems within 30 days.

What to watch next is clinical safety under messy real-world data. OpenAI says it works with hundreds of physicians on evaluations and that GPT-5.6 Sol improves on complex health questions, but connected records can still be incomplete, stale, or misunderstood.
