Dark Souls 2 cut contentから大規模なrestored mapが登場
PC Gamerの4月19日の記事によると、YouTuberでFromSoftware enthusiastのDonedaが隠されていたDark Souls 2 sewer mapを復元した。このareaは、The Grave of SaintsとBlack Gulchをつなぐsubterranean routeであるThe Gutterになる前の、より大きいearly versionと説明されている。
記事はこのcut mapをDark Souls 2のrough developmentと結びつけている。同作はmid-development rebootとstory overhaulを経ており、その過程でsmall itemsからlevel partsまで多くのcut contentが残った。PC Gamerは今回のsewer sectionを、その中でも大きなhidden areaの一つとして扱っている。DonedaはFromSoftware map dataを扱うasset formatのMapStudioBinary、つまりMSBを使ってlocationを復元した。
このmapはfinished levelではない。Enemiesは存在せず、granular detailも不足し、一部connectionもincompleteだ。それでもrestored versionはpartially texturedかつmostly interconnectedで、combatなしのDonedaのtourでもほぼ1時間かかる規模だ。Sourceはtemple-like spaces、vaulted ceilings、domed towers、Blighttown-style shanty section、tavern、大きなstatuesを持つboss-arena-like chamberを具体例として挙げている。
r/pcgaming postは2026-04-19 14:21:43 UTCに作成され、crawl時点でscore 600を超えた。今回のnews valueはplayable releaseではなく、preservationとdevelopment historyにある。Dark Souls 2がshipping前にどう変化したのかを、moddersとSouls researchersに示す追加資料になる。
