Dragon Quest Fans Finally Get a Date
Yuji Horii, the creator of the Dragon Quest franchise, has announced that a live stream on May 27 will include an announcement about the next Dragon Quest game. After years of near-silence following the 2021 announcement of Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, fans are cautiously optimistic that a major reveal is finally coming.
Dragon Quest XII: Still a Mystery
Dragon Quest XII was announced in 2021 with little more than a title and the promise that it would be different from previous entries. Since then, almost nothing has been shared publicly. Dragon Quest XI launched in 2017, meaning fans will have waited close to nine years for the next numbered entry if Dragon Quest XII arrives in 2026 or later.
What Could Be Announced?
- Dragon Quest XII release window or gameplay reveal
- Dragon Quest VIII remake (rumored)
- Dragon Quest Builders 3 announcement
- Dragon Quest X Offline international release plans
Horii's exact wording — "an announcement about the next game" rather than "the reveal of Dragon Quest XII" — leaves the door open for a range of possibilities. Regardless, May 27 marks the end of one of the longest dry spells in Dragon Quest history, and the community is eager for any news about where the beloved JRPG series is headed next.
