Official Shutdown Announcement
Google has set June 18, 2026 as the end-of-life date for Gemini CLI. From that date forward, free tier users, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and Gemini Code Assist IDE extension users will no longer be able to use Gemini CLI.
The Replacement: Antigravity CLI
Gemini CLI is being replaced by Antigravity CLI, part of Google's broader Antigravity 2.0 agent-first development platform announced at Google I/O 2026. It is rebuilt in Go for faster execution and introduces asynchronous workflows for background agent orchestration — a significant architectural upgrade.
What Carries Over
Agent Skills, Hooks, Subagents, and Extensions (now called Antigravity Plugins) all carry over to the new platform. Migration documentation is available at antigravity.google/docs/gcli-migration, with video walkthroughs releasing in the coming weeks.
Enterprise Exception
Organizations with Gemini Code Assist Standard or Enterprise licenses are exempt — they retain continued access to Gemini CLI with ongoing support after the June 18 deadline.
Users are encouraged to download Antigravity CLI now from antigravity.google/download to begin the transition before the deadline.
