Marathon Update 1.1.5 opens the game’s first experimental PvE mode, Vault Breaker, on July 21. The July 16 r/Games post linked Bungie’s preview, which sets the event window from July 21 through August 4. Players can enter Cryo Archive as Solo, Duo, or Trio, regardless of Runner Level.
Vault Breaker is a roguelite PvE mode built around repeated vault runs. Players earn Vault Data, then use it to upgrade a special Sponsored Kit or buy gear in the Vault Breaker Armory. Bungie says most items found inside a run are restricted from exfil, so the practical priority is event currency, rewards, and whatever gear is needed to survive the run.
The progression rules are specific. Tier 1 Vault Data comes from Vaults and must be exfilled, while killing a UESC Commander grants a Tier 1 reward after the run whether exfil succeeds or not. Tier 2 Vault Data requires consecutive Vault clears in the same run and a successful exfil. The Armory includes a daily rotating Deluxe weapon, Cryo Key Templates, Prestige Weapons, and weekly stock limits such as 3x or 5x for some Tier 1 items and 1x for some higher-tier rewards.
The preview also names balance changes for WSTR Combat Shotgun and D54 Battle Pistol. WSTR damage rises from 85 to 100, but spread, aim assist, magnetism, and falloff are being tightened. D54’s precision bonus multiplier drops from 1.5x to 1.38x, and its 100 Range damage falloff moves from 38m/72m to 34m/64m. Sources: Bungie, r/Games.
