Partnership Overview

OpenAI and Dell Technologies announced on May 18, 2026 a collaboration to bring Codex into the hybrid and on-premises environments where enterprise data already lives. The partnership addresses a core adoption barrier: many enterprises, particularly those in regulated industries, cannot pipe sensitive internal data to cloud-only AI services.

Codex Today

Codex is OpenAI’s fastest-growing enterprise product, with more than 4 million developers using it every week. Organizations are deploying it across the software development lifecycle—code review, test coverage, incident response, and reasoning across large repositories. Use cases are expanding beyond coding into report generation, product feedback routing, lead qualification, and cross-system work coordination.

Dell AI Data Platform and AI Factory Integration

Under the partnership, Codex will connect with the Dell AI Data Platform, which many businesses already use to store, organize, and govern enterprise data on-premises. This brings Codex closer to internal context—codebases, documentation, business systems, and operational knowledge—that makes agents genuinely useful. Dell and OpenAI will also explore connecting Codex with the Dell AI Factory for data preparation, system management, test execution, and deploying AI applications in hybrid or on-premises infrastructure. ChatGPT Enterprise and other OpenAI API-based solutions are also part of the exploration scope.
