Perplexity launches Computer for Enterprise to automate long-running web and app workflows

Perplexity says its Enterprise product is getting its biggest upgrade yet with the introduction of Computer for Enterprise. The shift is important because it moves the company from an answer engine toward an execution layer that can handle long-running tasks across both public websites and internal web applications.
According to the official announcement, the feature is available on day one for business search users. Perplexity is positioning the product around a familiar enterprise tradeoff: make agents more capable without losing control. That is why the launch emphasizes governance features alongside automation. The company highlights audit logs, identity-provider support, role-based access control, more granular permissions, SAML-based login, and zero data retention options.
What the launch adds
- Agents can navigate websites and internal web apps instead of stopping at chat-style responses.
- The product is built for long-running, end-to-end workflows rather than single prompts.
- Admins get audit and identity controls designed for enterprise security review.
- Perplexity is tying automation to enterprise compliance expectations including SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 messaging.
The strategic significance is straightforward. AI vendors are increasingly competing on whether their systems can actually complete work, not just explain how to do it. By packaging browser-style action taking with enterprise governance, Perplexity is making a direct bid for operations, research, and back-office workflows that normally live inside SaaS tools and custom internal systems.
The launch also reflects a broader change in enterprise AI buying criteria. Capability alone is no longer enough. Security teams want traceability, administrators want permission boundaries, and legal teams want retention controls. Perplexity’s message is that enterprise agents will only scale if those controls ship as part of the core product rather than as an afterthought.
That framing puts the company in a more direct contest with workflow automation vendors, browser agents, and enterprise copilots. If Perplexity can translate its research interface into a secure action layer, it could expand from knowledge work into repeatable operational work where measurable time savings matter more than model novelty.
