Eccoがcollectionと新作で復帰

Ecco the Dolphin: Completeは、Ecco the DolphinとEcco: The Tides of Timeの全version、さらに新しいcontemporary Ecco gameを収録するprojectだ。VGCは2026年4月22日にこの内容を伝え、original creatorのEd Annunziataが開発を率いるとしている。

初代Ecco the Dolphinは1992年にSega Mega Drive / Genesisで発売され、その後Master System、Game Gear、Mega CDへportされた。続編Ecco: The Tides of Timeは1994年にMega Drive / Genesisで発売され、Game GearとMega CDにも展開された。Master System版はBrazil限定だった。VGCはall versionsという表現について、8-bit Master System eraから16-bit Genesis / Mega Drive generationまでという説明もあるため、最終的な収録platformは追加確認が必要だと見ている。

original team membersが参加

開発はCalifornia拠点のA&R Atelierが担当する。VGCによると、同studioはAnnunziataが率い、original Ecco team membersも参加する。collectionにはspeedrunning support、achievements、leaderboards、旧作と新作をまたぐmeta questsが入る予定だ。

この動きは、Ecco seriesが2000年代初頭以降ほぼ休眠状態だった点で目立つ。単なるemulation bundleではなく、初期2作の保存と新作を同じpackageにまとめる構成だ。originalのatmosphere、music、designに関わった人たちが戻る点も、既存playerが注視する材料になる。

r/pcgaming threadは2026年4月22日に作成され、約146 upvotesと16 commentsを集めた。初期反応はnostalgicだが慎重で、originalの雰囲気だけでなく難度と進行の分かりにくさを思い出す声も目立った。
