개요
Anthropic이 Claude Code CLI와 VS Code Extension에 Fast Mode를 도입했다. HN에서 203점을 기록한 이 기능은 동일한 Opus 4.6 모델을 사용하면서 응답 속도를 크게 높인다. 현재 리서치 프리뷰 상태이다.

언제 사용할까
Fast Mode 적합: 빠른 코드 반복, 라이브 디버깅, 시간 제한이 있는 작업
Standard Mode 적합: 장시간 자율 작업, 배치 처리, 비용 민감 워크로드
Effort Level과의 차이
Fast Mode와 effort level은 모두 응답 속도에 영향을 주지만 방식이 다르다. Fast Mode는 동일 품질에 낮은 레이턴시·높은 비용이고, 낮은 effort level은 사고 시간을 줄여 품질이 다소 낮아질 수 있다. 두 가지를 결합하면 단순 작업에서 최대 속도를 얻을 수 있다.
Rate Limit 처리
Fast Mode rate limit에 도달하면 자동으로 standard Opus 4.6로 폴백되며, 쿨다운 후 자동 재활성화된다.
