WordPress.com Embeds AI Assistant Directly in Site Editor at No Extra Cost
Overview
WordPress.com launched a native AI Assistant on February 17, 2026, integrating it directly into the site editor. Unlike third-party AI add-ons, the assistant operates within the existing WordPress editing environment with no copy-pasting or prompt engineering required.
Key Features
- Editor integration: Users can issue commands like "Make this section feel more modern" or "Rewrite this to sound more confident" to adjust text and design in place.
- Media Library: The assistant generates and edits images using Google's Nano Banana models — for example, swapping visual elements or applying brand-consistent styles.
- Block Notes collaboration: Ask questions within block notes and receive AI answers with the page content as context, including fact-checks and source links.
Availability
The feature is included at no additional cost on WordPress.com's Business and Commerce plans. Sites built with the WordPress.com AI website builder receive it automatically regardless of plan. Classic theme users retain Media Library access but cannot use editor features.
