Xbox has officially scheduled the first public showcase for Metro 2039. In a post on Xbox Wire published on April 13, Xbox said it will air Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 on April 16 in a digital-only presentation produced with 4A Games and Deep Silver.
According to Xbox Wire, the broadcast is framed as a world-premiere look at the next title in the post-apocalyptic FPS series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels. Xbox also described Metro 2039 as the fourth mainline entry, following Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, and Metro Exodus. That matters because Metro Exodus launched in 2019, so this is the clearest official sign yet that the franchise is ready to return with a new numbered release.
What Xbox has confirmed
- The broadcast begins on April 16 at 10 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. Eastern / 6 p.m. UK.
- The show will stream as a YouTube Premiere on the official Xbox YouTube channel.
- Subtitles will be available in a long list of languages, including Japanese and Korean.
- Accessibility support will include an English audio-described version and an ASL version on Xbox's YouTube channel.
Xbox also said it will publish a recap on Xbox Wire immediately after the presentation ends, with localized versions in several languages. For players and industry watchers, the important point is not just the time of the stream but the fact that Xbox is treating this as a major reveal rather than a routine partner update.
There are still major unanswered questions. Xbox did not share platforms, a release window, or specific gameplay details in the announcement post. The company only said viewers should expect a first look at the next chapter in the series. Until the April 16 broadcast actually airs, details about scope, technology, and where Metro 2039 sits relative to Metro Exodus remain unconfirmed.
Still, the announcement alone is enough to move Metro back into the active release conversation. After years of relative quiet around the mainline series, Xbox and 4A Games have now put an exact date on the reveal, which gives fans a clear marker for when concrete information should finally arrive.
