The EU has moved the heaviest high-risk AI Act obligations out of August 2026 and into two later dates: December 2, 2027 and August 2, 2028. The same package still tightens near-term bans and transparency deadlines around harmful generated content.
EU Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on the Digital Omnibus regulation on May 7, 2026, extending high-risk AI compliance deadlines by up to 24 months and adding a new prohibition on non-consensual sexual AI content.
The European Commission on March 5, 2026 published a second draft code of practice for marking and labelling AI-generated content. The draft gives providers and deployers a clearer path toward Article 50 AI Act transparency requirements ahead of the August 2, 2026 applicability date.
