In a March 19 update, the OpenTTD team said its Steam and GOG changes were not the result of Atari pressure. New users on those storefronts will need to buy Transport Tycoon Deluxe first, while OpenTTD remains free on the project's official website.

The OpenTTD Team says that as of March 14, 2026, OpenTTD is no longer directly available as a standalone game on Steam or GOG and is instead bundled with Transport Tycoon Deluxe for $9.99, while existing owners keep access and direct downloads from openttd.org remain free.
