A recognizable Canadian studio name is back

According to a VGC report published on February 24, 2026, the team behind The Simpsons: Hit & Run and Prototype has re-emerged under a new company identity: New Radical Games. The new studio describes itself as a combination of “Radical Entertainment + Hothead Games,” signaling a continuity link with two well-known Vancouver developers.

The update immediately drew attention from players who remember Radical’s action-heavy catalog, but the current public information points to a business relaunch rather than any announced remake or sequel project.

From legacy brands to a new operating structure

VGC says Radical Entertainment was founded in 1991 in Vancouver, then changed ownership several times: acquired by Vivendi in 2005 and then by Activision in 2008. By the end of 2013, the studio was largely shut down as a standalone operation, with remaining staff moved to support roles on other Activision projects.

Hothead Games followed a different track: known for titles like Penny Arcade Adventures and DeathSpank, it later shifted toward mobile development and reportedly entered bankruptcy in late 2024.

New Radical Games now appears to merge those legacies into one structure. VGC identifies Ian Wilkinson as CEO and president, and Tim Bennison as COO. Wilkinson was one of Radical Entertainment’s co-founders and later served as president at Hothead. Bennison previously worked in leadership roles at Capcom Vancouver before joining Hothead in 2020.

What New Radical says it is doing now

The new website, cited by VGC, positions the company as open to work-for-hire development for mobile and console, plus co-development and port/remaster support. That service-oriented positioning suggests near-term commercial work could be partner-driven rather than tied to an immediate original franchise reveal.

Fans on social media have already speculated about potential remasters tied to Radical’s older IP history. But based on currently available statements, there is no confirmed project for The Simpsons: Hit & Run or Prototype.

The reappearance of a veteran Vancouver team is notable in a period when studios are frequently consolidating or cutting headcount. Even without a headline game reveal, a specialist team returning with experienced leadership can reshape co-development pipelines in North America, especially for remasters, ports, and mid-size production partnerships.
