What Riot says is changing

Riot says some Brazil players may already begin seeing age-verification prompts when they log into their Riot account. For players aged 18 or older, the company says verification may use one of several methods, including CPF number, debit or credit card, ID scan, or facial age estimation. Riot also says it is using Kids Web Services as the third-party service behind the verification process.

The more disruptive change affects younger players. Riot says that from March 18, 2026, players under 18 will not be able to access several titles whose age ratings are being temporarily raised to 18 in order to meet the legal requirements. The notice specifically lists League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends: Wild Rift, 2XKO, and Legends of Runeterra. Riot says it expects to keep evaluating those games under the ECA framework and hopes they can return to their original ratings by early 2027.

VALORANT is handled differently. Riot says players aged 12 to 17 will need parental consent to access the game, which means providing a parent or legal guardian email address and completing approval through Riot's parental-control portal.

Why this is high-signal

The reason this Reddit post carries real signal is that it shows compliance moving from back-office policy into live product design. Verification flow, parental-control systems, temporary age-rating changes, and account-level gating all affect retention, onboarding, and support. It also suggests that publishers are going to need more flexible regional compliance tooling as child-safety and digital-platform rules become more specific from market to market.
