Azureが発表したこと

Azureは2026年3月5日、Phi-4-Reasoning-Vision-15BがMicrosoft Foundryで利用可能になったと発表した。X postは今回のreleaseを単なるbenchmark競争ではなく、実際のdeveloper workflowに向けたhigh-fidelity vision reasoning infrastructureとして打ち出している。Microsoftがこのmodelを、visual inputを読み取り、その上で構造化された判断を行うapplicationの土台として売り出していることが分かる。

Microsoftの記事が補足した内容

MicrosoftのFoundry blogはPhi-4-Reasoning-Vision-15Bを、高解像度のvisual perceptionとselectiveでtask-awareなreasoningを組み合わせた15B modelとして説明する。実務的に重要なのは、developerがreasoningを明示的にon/offできる点だ。つまり、すべてのrequestを同じreasoning pathへ流すのではなく、runtimeでlatencyとaccuracyのバランスを調整できる。Microsoftはこれを、深い推論が必要な処理と高速なperceptionだけで足りる処理が混在するinteractive systemに向いた設計だと位置付けている。

想定workloadとしては、document、chart、table理解、diagramベースの数学・科学reasoning、さらにscreen上でactionをgroundするcomputer use agentのscenarioが挙げられている。Microsoftはmodelのcompact sizeも強調する。より大きなmultimodal systemより応答速度や運用コストの面で、interactive applicationに向く可能性があるという主張だ。

なぜ重要か

このreleaseが注目される理由は、multimodal reasoningをmodel size競争ではなく運用制御の問題として扱っている点にある。Reasoning behaviorを切り替えられれば、同じdeployment surfaceで応答時間、コスト、task難度をより細かく最適化できる。Dashboardを読み、documentを解釈し、computer use workflowを動かすassistantを作るteamにとっては、こうしたcontrollable reasoningは単純なbenchmark優位と同じくらい重要になりうる。
