In its same-day article, Helix 02 Living Room Tidy, the company said the demonstration is a whole-body, end-to-end cleanup task in which the robot walks through the room while continuously manipulating objects, tools, and containers.

The context matters. In Introducing Helix 02: Full-Body Autonomy on January 27, 2026, Figure said Helix 02 is a single neural system that controls a humanoid's full body directly from pixels, integrating walking, manipulation, and balance. That earlier release focused on kitchen-style tasks. The March 9 update pushes the same architecture into a living room, which is less structured and more representative of everyday home environments.

Why the company says this task is hard

Figure's article is explicit about the difficulty. A living room changes constantly, objects are scattered unpredictably, furniture creates narrow navigation paths, and soft items like towels and pillows behave dynamically. The company says Helix 02 handles coordinated surface cleaning with a spray bottle and towel, flexible-object handling, two-handed bin work, under-arm stowing to free both hands, pillow tossing, in-hand reorientation of a remote to turn off a TV, and tight side-stepping between a coffee table and couch.

Why this is high-signal

The significance is that several hard robotics problems appear together in one domestic workflow: locomotion, dexterity, tool use, and real-time planning. Figure's claim is not that it engineered a separate controller for each motion, but that the same general-purpose Helix stack can learn new behaviors by adding data. If that scales, the company gets closer to a humanoid system that can accumulate practical household and workplace skills under one architecture.

There are still important gaps. A public demo does not, by itself, establish broad reliability, recovery behavior, safety margins, or production success rates. But the March 9 release is still a meaningful signal. It shows Figure trying to move humanoid autonomy from carefully structured tasks toward the kind of cluttered, variable environment that home robotics has to survive in.
