PS5 Pro Gets an Improved PSSR AI Upscaler Update — PC Gamers on RDNA 2 and 3 GPUs Still Waiting for FSR 4

PS5 Pro PSSR Receives an Upgrade
Sony's PS5 Pro is set to receive an improved PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) AI upscaler update, enhancing the console's ability to deliver high-quality visuals through machine learning-based image reconstruction. PSSR is the proprietary AI upscaling technology built into the PS5 Pro, leveraging the console's RDNA 3-based GPU to upscale lower-resolution frames to 4K quality in real time.
RDNA 2 and 3 PC Gamers Left Behind
Meanwhile, PC gamers using AMD Radeon RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 graphics cards — architectures closely related to the GPU inside the PS5 Pro — are still waiting for official FSR 4 support. AMD's FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4) currently only officially supports RDNA 4 (Radeon RX 9000-series) GPUs. Given the architectural similarities between RDNA 2, 3, and the PS5 Pro's GPU, many PC gamers are questioning why support has not been extended.
The Console-PC Divide
The situation highlights a frustrating disconnect for the AMD community. The PS5 Pro — reportedly using a modified RDNA 3 architecture — is receiving enhanced AI upscaling while PC cards using similar silicon are excluded from AMD's latest upscaling standard. AMD has not announced any plans to bring FSR 4 support to RDNA 2 or RDNA 3 PC GPUs. For now, PC gamers wanting the latest AMD upscaling technology will need to upgrade to an RX 9000-series card, while PS5 Pro users continue to benefit from improving console-side upscaling.
