Prologue: Go Wayback! is stopping development just over six months after its Early Access launch. The June 4 r/pcgaming post linked PC Gamer’s report that PlayerUnknown Productions is halting work on the survival project and laying off staff.

The player-facing plan has three parts. The studio is preparing an update with new items, paths, and trails for exploration. With that update, it plans to move the game out of Early Access and make it free for anyone who still wants to try it. PlayerUnknown Productions is also investigating refunds for people who purchased the game.

Founder Brendan Greene said the studio will continue work on its Melba technology with a smaller team, but further development of Go Wayback is being halted. PC Gamer also noted that the game’s Steam audience never built much momentum, with low concurrent-player numbers after launch.

This is a shutdown story, not a normal roadmap change. The game may remain playable as a free download, but the Early Access plan players bought into will not be completed in its original form. For current owners, the next concrete information to watch is the promised update and the studio’s refund notice on Steam and Discord.
